in firefox, what tends to work for me is if to click on the link so it takes you to the 'forbidden' message, then click in the address bar so the link is highlighted in blue, then hit enter and hopefully the pictures should appear
Usually, I recommend to update software, but IE8 is a pain you know where. I never saw a so slow to open and slow to use browser. It seems that it is related to its own spyware detection application (especially if you already have Spybot).
