Sunday amateur 3/5

Post by watchr12 »

Does anyone have a problem with tumblr pages not fully loading (or taking several minutes to complete)? Often, even the images don't load; other times, the images load, but the page isn't fully loaded. Sometimes, in the Archive section, selecting a month will the fix the problem. Sometimes, stopping the page loading reveals all the images, but they vanish in a second. Often, when stopping the loading, there's a message on-screen that something went wrong. Any suggestions? This problem is new in the last two or three months. FWIW, I'm using Firefox 51.0.1 with NoScript (only allowing tumblr and yahoo scripts to run).

I see what you mean. It is like the server can't copy with the high traffic peaks. It is awfully slow here as well. Have you tried to disable Flash or kill the plugin-container in the task manager? It helped me to do so over here.

Could be that Firefox is expanding in size until it fills memory, having to do with the fact that tumblr pages keep increasing in length rather than eventually giving you a "next page" to click. I've seen that problem before. Selecting individual months should avoid it.

Try restarting Firefox if this happens. You can get Firefox restarter add-ons. Of course, that will return you to the top of the tumblr page.

Thanks for the info and advice: I've noticed that Firefox seems to have memory leaks big time. You're very right: restarting cleans it all up, but it then means reloading everything.

One trick that works for me is to kill Firefox from Task Manager. When FF restarts, it will ask if you want to restore the previous session. However, as you note, it will take you to the top of the page.

Cheers!
